We are now…
Alliance for a Multiracial Society
The Center for the Study of White American Culture has now officially become the Alliance for a Multiracial Society. We are a New Jersey-based nonprofit corporation. In March of 2026 we filed with the State of NJ to amend our name. The amendment was approved.
We were founded in April 1995 and incorporated in July 1995. For more than 30 years we have been in continuous operation. Alliance for a Multiracial Society (AMRS) continues on that work without interruption and retains that history. Our services remain available as before. We anticipate offering new services as well.
The name of Center for the Study of White American Culture (CSWAC) has served us well over our 30-year history. We are retaining it. CSWAC has now become a project under the corporate nonprofit umbrella of the Alliance for a Multiracial Society. AMRS has also taken ownership of Crandall, Dostie & Douglass Books (CDDB), and the Anti-Racist Community Network (ARCN). Both CSWAC and CDDB are now approved by the State of NJ as alternate business names for the Alliance for a Multiracial Society.
We chose to become the Alliance for a Multiracial Society because of the increasing emphasis we have placed on the second part of our two-part mission. Our mission is and has been to build an equitable society in the United States by decentering white culture and centering an anti-racist multiracial culture free of white supremacy.
CSWAC proved to be an excellent vehicle for the first part of our mission, which is to decenter white culture. We have found over time that many other individuals and organizations in both activist and scholarly communities have joined in this work.
The second part of our mission, centering a multiracial culture, has not seen as much growth in understanding and support from those two named communities. And the public at large is relatively uninformed even as to the possibilties that exist.
We recognized these trends several years ago, and began to shift our focus to building anti-racist multiracial community. Hence our annual conference on Building Anti-Racist Multiracial Community as well as other services we deliver. As we made that shift, we began to find our name as CSWAC did not as readily describe our changing focus.
There is still much to be done in decentering whiteness work. CSWAC, now operating as a project under the AMRS umbrella, will continue that work. But the Alliance for a Multiracial Society now speaks to the emerging goal of our advocacy and educational services. We hope you continue with us on our journey.
