Donations to the Center are tax-deductible. It received recognition from the IRS as a public charity, under IRC sec. 501(c)(3), on September 19, 2008 (determination letter available on request).

The Center will need approximately $500,000 to fully achieve its goals for 2010. The Center will seek the necessary funding from private individuals, charitable foundations, government legal services programs, and other sources. However, it will continue to rely on volunteers and refrain from making financial commitments until it has the financial resources to sustain them. All of the Center’s personnel are volunteers.

The Center is committed to minimizing administrative and fundraising expenses. Through September 30, 2009, the Center used donations from persons not affiliated with it solely for its public education programs (including investigations, research and reports). Approximately 36% of those donated funds went to recruitment, recognition and expenses of new volunteers; 23% to supplies; 20% to equipment; and 15% for participation in a leading regional association of nonprofit affordable housing developers.

To guard against conflicts of interest, the Center has a written Conflict of Interest Policy that has been accepted by the Internal Revenue Service. Each Director and Officer must sign a financial disclosure statement annually in accordance with that Policy.

We will keep our contributors fully informed on the specific uses we make of donations and grants, through mailings, e-mail updates, and our website.
